These are common threads that I come across in forums where people desperately looking for a mentor to teach them to make money online. And it’s a common sight to see a lot of replies following the thread with some somewhat self promotional replies.
Now the questions that you’ll need to keep in mind when when looking for a mentor that suits you are:
(1) Are these so-called mentors’ credible people?
There are a lot humbugs out there and this is an undeniable fact. How many times have you come across claims like:
“I made $3000 in a week after following the ebook. Buy the book by clicking here and you’ll make money”
“I’ve bought all ebooks about internet marketing, took every course out there, spent thousand of dollars and now making millions. I’ve refined everything in my ebook, and all you need is my ebook. Get it now”
Come on, if making money online is that easy, why isn’t everybody making money online and quit their job? It would be great if it was that easy and buying a few ebooks or software is what it takes to build an online business. Unfortunately, that’s not the case. An ebook or software could be a small piece of the internet business puzzle but definitely not the whole picture.
As a matter of fact, all jobs requires 2 kinds of training – book training and “on the job training”. If you know nothing about cooking, do you think reading some cooking manuals is all you need to be able to cook? Next..
2) What are their specializations and are their specialty what you want to learn?
No one person is a specialist in all fields and everything. Even with internet marketing or to make money online; there are a lot of ways. So, you’ll have to be very clear of your own liking on which route to follow. This is one of the important things when finding a mentor too.
And last but not least.. Don’t expect to find a mentor without investing some money and time. I have burnt my fingers twice with the fake mentors, not to mention the time spent in arranging online meetings and 2 offline ones. I was tired of listening to the same old tips. I am probably not going to be easy working with another mentor. For others, I will advice that they find ‘documented’ past successes of mentors and see if they know anyone who has benefited from mentor’s guidance and feedback.
I belive that once you decide to pay for “mentoring” the agreement should be that you’ll pay for results. This way you’ll either get a legitimate answer or you at least won’t waste any money.
I always respect the mentors because they make the life successful and meaningful of their pupil. It is seen that most of successful people had a mentor who shape their life.
Having a good mentor can really help you in your life and in business, I think if you have to pay for a mentor it can strain the relationship it should be based on some types of goals

But yes the points your have put across are very significant while selecting a GURU, and yes there is time factor also involved and its upto us about how much time & effort we need to put in to get our business rolling, but the basic question is Do you really want to go for this business?

Great post. A mentor will definitely fast track your way to success as this will avoid you trial and errors and wasting time.
I think it is important to find a good mentor it really helps you become successful and make the most of your new venture. Although it is to find someone that you can learn from it can be difficult to find someone that wants to share and educate you. When I was looking for someone to help me make money online, I made sure that I had a back up plan, I still talk within a community as a lot of different peoples experiences are sometimes better than one person who may not have experienced what you want to learn.

Yes, so called “forum mentors” can’t be trusted. Lets be honest. I made millions and now I will show everyone how I did it. That is a little bit naive in my opinion. I won’t believe that making 3000 a week or million yearly is possible after reading a book and creating a blog.

As a mentor gives you value, he is also giving you tips, skills and knowledge that they are well equipped with. They have gathered the information from Internet marketing career to help the teams succeed. The methods of doing this are one-phone conversations; team training calls, webinars, email and many more.
I concur. Most jobs requires book training and on the job training. Now, mentors do help but one has to remember that they are a unique being. What I mean to say is that we should not go around cloning people but leaning from their positives.
When we choose a path on the road of life we always wonder will we be able to make it till end? M i ready to go ahead and find out my own ways? will i be able to do it alone? and from here the Hunt for the mentor begins when we think what if i seek help of someone who has already crossed the road and knows about the way,it will guide me till end but ultimately the journey has to be done by us only.We can get few tips and guidance but we can’t be spoon fed. So Remember only getting a MENTOR does not helps, being mentally prepared to give in your best is the key!

Well, I’ve been looking for a mentor too and did subscribe to a few of those memberships sites where it’s basically a paid forum – they were ok but I had to share my questions with everyone else and basically reveal my niches etc to get an answer from ‘the mentor’ – didn’t really like. I have come across Jimmy Brown though and I am very tempted it’s just it’s $1k / month – eek!
Finding a mentor is really hard mainly because the best ones will charge a hefty fee and this means that you automatically become skeptical when someone charges a lot of money. Do your research on that person/mentor and find out how others have got on. Mentors are so important though, keeps you on the success line!

Mentor!for being successful online you may need a guide but at the same time you need to help yourself, a mentor may guide you through the way but ultimately its upto your hard work.Ya a right guidance may help you a lot and teach you lot as you can learn from their first hand experience and i have seen so may people online selling themselves as a mentor but you need to be scrupulous enough to identify them or you will end up wasting your time, Ya John seems to be the right person as a mentor.

Japh I don’t really agree with that, there are a few things on internet marketing which google doesn’t help, contradictory ideas, so you would be better having someone with experience to ask what have worked for them, that’s why I think mentoring shouldn’t be overlooked.
