How Do You Post To Your Blog?

I was a little frustrated the other day when making my previous post as my machine went hanging probably because of my slow typing ability. I was making the post directly from the wordpress dashboard and it doesn’t seem to work very well.

And all I knew was only 2 ways to do it:

  • post through the dashboard as what I was then doing (and most people do)
  • post by email (which I’ve never tried because of the seemingly complicated technical stuff involved. You see, I hate difficult, complicated things as it’s going to take a lot of time to learn. That’s also the reason why I’m using Prosense template for my blog as well.)

So, I went to my favorite forum and plead for alternatives. It really surprised me that there were actually so many ways to do it. Listed below are some of the alternatives that you can use to make a blog post other than the 2 methods above.

  1. Windows Live Writer – This is a free desktop application by Microsoft Inc. that you can use to publish to most major blog platform like Wordpress and Blogger. And it’s said to be very good for publishing content rich post ie video, audio, pictures. And most importantly, you can draft your post offline,
save it to your hard drive and connect online only when you want to do the publishing. This way, you won’t have the fear that what you’ve written earlier went missing if your browser suddenly get nasty or that there’s a sudden black out.
  2. Blog Desk – Another interesting offline blog editor that does as much as what Windows Live Writer can do. It gets very good response from forum members as well. Formating your blog post, embeding pictures and videos should be a breeze with this one as well. Ah..yes it’s free too.
  3. Wbloggar - If you’ve plenty of blogs to manage, you can consider this one as well. I found from their website that it supports most blogging platforms – Wordpress, Blogger, Typepad, Drupal, Movable Type etc. It has comprehensive editing features as well, can work offline and it’s also free.
  4. ScribeFire – This is not a software that you need to download. It’s simply a plugin for Firefox. If you’re using Firefox, then this is definitely something you must try. I’m making this post using this plugin and it’s the first alternative that I tried :) Why? Because I’ve too many programs installed in my PC and I’m not going to install another without first confirming that I really need it. It seems like my PC running on a Pentium IV processor is gradually getting slower and slower with some glitch at times probably because there are so many programs / softwares that I’ve installed lately. (and most of them I seldom use).
  5. EasyWordpressVideo – It doesn’t sound free, right? But it is free at time of this writing. This tool is designed specifically for publishing videos and it currently works only for Wordpress blog platform. However, I found that it works to publish pictures, and written words just as well but lack in editing features.
  6. Ecto – I won’t recommend this one to you. Just include it here in this list for those who might be interested to try. This one is not free; it cost $17.95 to buy but they do offer a 21 days trial. As I’ve never tried it, it’s not fair to give any review. However, I personally don’t see any logic why
should we paying extra if there are so many free ones that offer as much available. One distinction from others that I can see it that it works both on Windows and Mac.
  7. BlogJet – It works for most blog platforms as well and has most editing features. I found there to be a free version and paid one that start from $ 29.95. However, it doesn’t state how long the free version will work on its website.
  8. Qumana – Damn it! I couldn’t find whether it’s free from the website. But there’s no buy button to be found either, so my guess is, it’s free. Yeah, it’s a software that you can download and work offline to draft your post and connect only when it’s ready for publishing. It works both on a Mac or Windows based PC. They offer something like an Adsense alternative as well.
  9. RocketPost – Wow! The price is steep. $49 for home edition and $ 99 for a Pro edition. I’m not sure what additional features that it has. But, with so many free options available, and a bad review found on page one while searching “RocketPost” on Yahoo, I would better skip this one.
  10. Post2Blog – Not sure if this one is still working but my Firefox return some “harmful website” alert (screenshot below) while searching it. So, I’ve just ignore it. If you are interested to know more anyway, there’re some feedback on Download.com.

firefox alert

I really hope that you can have a better experience while making your blog post with these alternatives.

Cheers!

If you like what I'm doing on my blog, you can help me stay awake by grabbing me a cup of coffee.... thanks ;)
